Every worker needs a site-specific induction before they start, on top of their general construction induction (White Card). This checklist makes sure nothing is missed and gives you a signed record.

What it covers

Worker & Verification

  • Worker name, company and trade
  • General construction induction (White Card) sighted
  • High-risk work licences / tickets sighted and recorded
  • Emergency contact

Site-Specific Briefing

  • Site layout, access/egress and parking
  • Site rules and hours
  • Key personnel and reporting lines
  • Sign-in/out and amenities

Health & Safety

  • Site-specific hazards and high-risk areas
  • Emergency procedures, assembly points and first aid
  • Incident and hazard reporting process
  • Relevant SWMS reviewed for the worker's tasks
  • PPE requirements

Environment & Quality

  • Environmental controls (waste, spill, dust, noise)
  • Quality and housekeeping expectations
  • No-go zones and exclusion areas

Acknowledgement

  • Worker signature and date
  • Inductor name, signature and date
  • Record retained on site

How to use it

  • A White Card is not a substitute for a site-specific induction — you need both.
  • Sight and record licences and tickets at induction, not after an incident.
  • Re-induct when site conditions or hazards change materially.

Frequently asked

What should a construction site induction cover?

Site layout and rules, key personnel, site-specific hazards, emergency and incident procedures, environmental controls, PPE, and a record that the worker's relevant SWMS were reviewed — followed by a signed acknowledgement.

What is the difference between a White Card and a site induction?

A White Card (general construction induction) is a one-time national requirement to work in construction. A site induction is specific to each project and briefs the worker on that site's hazards, rules and procedures. Workers need both.
